about
Back in early 2014, when I started this solo artist path as SUNKEN VESSELS, I was at a friend’s party and played one of my songs (“Live It Loud”) on an acoustic guitar that was lying around. There were two distinct reactions from my friend’s friends that I’ll never forget. One was like “wow, I actually felt something” (to me, def a compliment), but another was like “it’s all power chords tho” (to me, def a diss). Tbh that stuck w me for a while but thanks to that dude I felt the urge to keep improving my guitar chops and (eventually) write less power chord driven songs. Around the fall of 2016, when I released my third EP “terminal,” I began working on a lotta new material. But rather than continuing to write songs, I instead focused more on crafting melodic soundscapes w very loose structures. I’ve messed around w various structures before that strayed away from the usual “verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus” kinda thing but this time around I was compelled to dive deeper, beyond my set ways of making music. A lotta ideas, sounds, riffs, and songs came outta those sessions. Although the majority were scrapped, one of the few that did survive was “Fallout”. I was also listening to a lot of Tycho, Flume, and Russian Circles at the time, so they def had an influence in shaping the sound and structure for the track (even tho the song isn’t rly like something they would make).
